MCC to host concert band and chorus concert Nov. 22

McHenry County College will host the MCC Concert Band and Chorus Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22. Both concerts will take place in the Luecht Conference Center, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

The MCC Concert Band, directed by Paige Lush, Ph.D., will feature "The Glory of the Yankee Navy" by John Phillip Sousa, "Rhosymedre" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, "March to the Scaffold from Symphonie Fantastique" by Hector Berlioz and "Missouri Shindig" by H. Owen Reed, featuring a fiddle solo by Janet Kvam-Holub.

The MCC Chorus, directed by Steven Szalaj, will perform music from Renaissance to Contemporary, in classical, folk and gospel styles. Among the pieces performed, "Gloria as modem tubae" by Dufay (1397 - 1474) will be accompanied by a trombone duo. "Canten SeƱores Cantores" is a lively folk arrangement from South America that reflects the celebration of Carnivale. In addition, a powerful gospel setting of Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" will feature soloists Howard Stockwell and Rachel Anderson.

The concerts are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Michael Hillstrom at (815) 479-7814.
