Crespo Praises Local Schools and Educators in Celebration of American Education Week

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - As a leader in the Illinois House of Representatives on educational issues, state Rep. Fred Crespo, D-Hoffman Estates, is helping recognize American Education Week, being observed this year from Nov. 16 to Nov. 20, and encouraging residents to show support for area schools.

"Our area is so fortunate to be home to some of the best schools in the country," Crespo said. "I will continue working to provide the resources our teachers and schools need to thrive and help prepare our children for the rest of their lives."

The National Education Association's 94th Annual American Education Week is held each year to give residents the opportunity to celebrate public education and the progress being made every day in our schools.

Crespo was recently appointed chairman of the House Elementary & Secondary Education School Curriculum & Policies Committee where he oversees legislation to improve the education of students. During his time on the committee he has supported legislation requiring public universities in Illinois to grant students college credit if they receive a 3 or high on their Advanced Placement Test, helping students lower their higher educational expenses. Crespo was also one of the crucial votes in the House to pass a spending plan that increased local education funding by $16 million.

"Our children are entering a world where they will be competing in a global economy, and we owe it to them to provide the best education possible," Crespo said. "This week gives us the chance to thank those who have made it their life's work to teach the future leaders of Illinoisans and to make our state stronger."
