Route 176 reopens in downtown Libertyville

Route 176 west of Milwaukee Avenue (Route 21) in Libertyville has reopened, after a fallen tree that had blocked the roadway was cleared, according to the Lake County PASSAGE traffic monitoring system.

The busy route was closed for just over an hour, Libertyville police said, after a large tree fell across the road due to high wind. Police closed Route 176 between Milwaukee and Brainerd Avenue as the tree was tangled in power lines.

No injuries or damage was reported, police said. A portion of the eastbound lanes were still closed as of 3:30 p.m. as cleanup was completed.

The tree was on private property on Route 176 between Douglas Avenue and Brainerd. About half the tree, amounting to a 20-inch-diameter piece, split off, according to the village parks department. The parks maintenance division removed the tree.
