Two arrested on heroin, pot charges near Elgin

Two Chicago men were arrested after a traffic stop on Interstate 90 near Elgin Tuesday afternoon on charges they possessed $20,000 worth of marijuana and heroin, according to state police and court records.

Ndikho Brunson, 39, of the 8000 block of South Eberhart Avenue, and Armeer Asad, 26, of the 2200 block of East 98th Street, have been charged with manufacture/delivery of 100 to 400 grams of heroin and manufacture/delivery of between 500 and 2,000 grams of marijuana, according to Kane County court records.

The most severe heroin charge carries a prison term of six to 30 years if convicted.

According to state police, the two were pulled over at 1:29 p.m. Tuesday while headed west on Interstate 90 near Route 31.

"When the troopers made the initial stop, they obtained probable cause to search the vehicle," said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Brody, who refused to give his first name.

Brody could not specify why Asad was pulled over. Brody said a search of the vehicle turned up 102 grams of heroin, which has an estimated street value of $10,000, along with 957 grams of marijuana, which had a street value of just less than $10,000.

The seized heroin comes to about 3.5 ounces while the marijuana was more than 2 pounds.

According to Kane County court records, Brunson also was cited for driving while his license was suspended and driving the wrong way.

Bail was set Wednesday at $250,000 for Brunson and $175,000 for Asad.

Brunson is due in court Dec. 2 and Asad is due in court Dec. 3.
