Maybe snow Friday night, so businesses getting ready

With the season's first snow in the forecast for Friday night, homeowners and commercial snow removal companies are rushing to make sure they're ready.

Some forecasts are calling for a dusting while others project three to six inches of snow. For Matt Golden of Good Neighbor Small Engine Co. in Elgin, the uncertainty isn't a problem.

"It's nice that the weatherman doesn't really know what's going to happen," he said. "Just the threat of it is enough to get the phone ringing."

Golden said the forecast is right in the sweet spot for getting people to think about how they're going to deal with a storm.

"Currently they're reporting about three inches for the area, and that's enough that you won't want to shovel it," he said.

Wednesday he was working on a plow for a commercial snow removal company and an electric salter. The calls from homeowners for snowblower repairs are trickling in as well.

"It will be more so when it actually snows," he said with a laugh. "It's kind of amazing how it ends up being last-minute, like lots of things in life."
