Southern, Tulane players take LSWA football honors

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A big win by Southern and a last-second win by Tulane earned players from those teams the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors.

Quarterback Austin Howard of Southern sent the Jaguars to the Bayou Classic in a couple of weeks on a winning note with a 46-7 win over Alabama A&M to earn offensive honors.

Tulane defensive tackle Tanzel Smart had a career high nine tackles and kicker Andrew DiRocco kicked the game-winning field goal as time ran out in Tulane's 34-31 win at Army.
