Northwestern State's guard Jalan West out with torn ACL
NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) - Northwestern State's senior point guard Jalan West will need season-ending surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee.
Demons coach Mike McConathy says results from an MRI Tuesday confirmed fears that West had torn his ACL after a collision in the final minute of Friday's season opener at Ole Miss. West scored 25 points, 24 after halftime. Last year's NCAA assist leader, West had six assists in the 90-76 loss to the Rebels.
Head Athletic Trainer Jason Drury says West will have surgery in 2-to-3 weeks. He says the typical recovery time for injuries like his is about six months.
McConathy says the school will pursue all avenues in efforts to appeal for West to be granted a sixth year of eligibility after the 2015-16 season.
