Mundelein wins in Pazanin's debut

Amy Richards and Madison Davis each scored 13 points, earning Martin Pazanin his first win as head coach of Mundelein's girls basketball team in a 48-25 decision over Highland Park in opening-round action of Mundelein's Thanksgiving tournament Monday night.

Davis also grabbed 9 rebounds in the season opener.

"I told (the players) they need to spend tonight enjoying it," said Pazanin, 29, who's an Antioch graduate. "During the fall we had open gyms in the morning, conditioning after school. Over the last two weeks, we'd go before school and then we'd go in the evening. So they've been working super, super hard."

Sophomore guard Kelsy Austwick added 9 points for Mundelein, which held Highland Park to 4 field goals. The Mustangs led 9-3 after one quarter, 25-12 at halftime and 40-18 after three.
