Prospect sports another debut victory under Lovin

Gabrielle Lovin won her season opener for the second year in a row - in a different sport.

In the fall of 2014, Lovin was Prospect's girl volleyball coach and her Knights began with a victory over Maine South.

Lovin is now the first-year girls basketball coach at Prospect, where she is the school's third all-time leading scorer with 1,304 points.

She got off on a winning note again, watching her Knights take a 61-44 triumph from Oswego on the opening night of the York Thanksgiving tournament in Elmhurst.

Senior guard Angelina Villasin scored a team-high 19 points while sophomore guard Emily Frasco added 12 with a pair of 3-pointers.

Senior Nikki Matters, also a member of the backcourt, added 11 for the Knights, who led 24-11 at the break, limiting Oswego to 2 points in the second quarter.

"Angelina did extremely well," said Lovin of Villasin's career-high. "She was driving to the basketball and taking advantage of that."

Seniors Angela Roman (7 points), Clare O'Carroll (6) and Brenda Kendziera (5) were the next top scorers for the Prospect, the defending tournament champion.

Niles West 52, Conant 42: Guards Jorie Wachal (16 points) and Nireet Dhillon (14) led the Cougars in their first game of the York Thanksgiving tournament in Elmhurst.
