Chicago mayor: Paris trip is still on despite 'vile attack'

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he will make an already planned trip to Paris despite the coordinated attacks that killed 129 people on Friday.

The mayor announced Monday that the attacks would not affect his plans to attend the Climate Summit for Local Leaders in France next month. It's an invitation-only meeting on climate change.

Emanuel met Monday with French Consul General Vincent Floreani and placed flowers at the French consulate in Chicago. Paris is one of Chicago's sister cities and Emanuel traveled there in July on a family vacation and business trip.

Emanuel calls last week's violence "a vicious and a vile attack" on all who share values of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks.
