Schaumburg lights holiday tree Nov. 27

Santa Claus will join Schaumburg officials to light the village's holiday tree and usher in the season during a ceremony outside the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center on Friday, Nov. 27.

The event begins with holiday caroling at 6 p.m. at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court. At 6:30 p.m., the Schaumburg Fire Department will escort Santa to the plaza between the Prairie Center and municipal center for the tree lighting.

The plaza tree will be decorated with ornaments crafted by area youth groups and organizations. After helping light the tree, Santa will meet with youngsters in the Prairie Center's Maggie Atcher Theatre. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras for photos, and seasonal entertainment and refreshments will be provided.

Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for the Schaumburg Food Pantry. Requested items include canned meals, soup, juice, snacks, crackers, dry pasta, tomato products, tissues, paper towels, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner. All items can be placed in the designated boxes located in the Prairie Center lobby. Additionally, items will be accepted at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday until December 30, 2015.

The event is co-sponsored with the Schaumburg Jaycees. For more information, contact Special Events Coordinator Roxane Benvenuti at (847) 923-3605 or rbenvenuti@villageofschaumburg.com.
