Des Plaines charges Guadalupe organizers $8,000 for traffic control

Des Plaines will charge organizers of the Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration $8,000 for providing traffic control during the upcoming festival Dec. 11 and 12, on the campus of Maryville Academy.

That's the same amount the city charged last year, but it comes after a 2013 controversy in which organizers were shocked by a $30,000 bill. The bill was later lowered to $7,000 through negotiations.

Officials say the bill covers a portion of the costs incurred by the city to handle traffic control and other police services during the event.

The city council is expected to vote on the agreement Monday.
