McCarty, No. 12 Texas women beat Texas-San Antonio, 90-53

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Brooke McCarty hit 4 of 5 from 3-point range and scored 16 of her 22 points in the first half to help No. 12 Texas women beat Texas-San Antonio 90-53 Saturday night in the season opener for both schools.

McCarty made 8 of 13 field goals and finished with seven rebounds and four assists while Kelsey Lang scored 12 points. Empress Davenport, Imani Boyette, Celina Rodrigo and Lashann Higgs added 11 points apiece for Texas.

Texas used a 16-0 run in the second quarter to open up a 23-point lead before going into halftime up 44-21. The Longhorns allowed UTSA to make just 7 of 32 first-half field goals and outrebounded the Roadrunners 57-35 overall -turning 22 offensive rebounds into 26 second-chance points.

Alexus Dukes led UTSA with 18 points.
