Man charged in 2014 shooting death of 14-year-old

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago man is being held without bond in the shooting death last year of a 14-year-old boy.

Eighteen-year-old Michael Anderson is accused of shooting to death Marcus McCarty in August 2014. Prosecutors say Anderson got of a car on Chicago's West Side and fired at a group of people Anderson was walking with. Anderson was wounded in the abdomen and back.

Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Robert Kline said Friday that Anderson was observed with a gun by several witnesses.

Kline says Anderson, who is currently in prison serving a 15 month term for a weapons conviction, told others he shot at the group because he thought they were rival gang members.

In ordering Anderson held, Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil noted Anderson's facial expressions showed "he did not care" about the allegations against him.
