Wego Drama stages 'Inherit the Wind'

Wego Drama at West Chicago Community High School continues its season with a thoughtful production of "Inherit the Wind."

Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, the play is a powerful courtroom drama based on the famed Scopes Monkey Trial of the 1920s. "Inherit the Wind" takes the stage Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 19-21.

In addition, the Illinois House of Representatives recently passed House Resolution 0786, congratulating Wego Drama for its efforts over the past few years and for being selected to represent Illinois at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A presentation by Rep. Jeanne Ives will take place following the Thursday performance of "Inherit the Wind."

"We pride ourselves at Wego Drama for doing challenging and thought-provoking performances. And it is not just that, we are committed to serving our community. To be recognized this year, and at this show, is beyond expectations. I hope that people will see the good work that we do."

"I find that in every rehearsal, my mind is being opened to new ideas. I cannot wait to share it with the audience," actor Dylan Davidson said.

In the drama, opposing sides of ideals bring a glimpse into human nature and why standing for your belief shows a true character trait. The debate and action fits with the Wego Drama season motto of "Character Counts."

The performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 19-21, at West Chicago Community High School, 326 Joliet St., West Chicago. Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults and are available online at wegotheatre.com or at the door.
