Partnership aims to inspire future health care professionals

Elgin, Ill. - Advocate Sherman Hospital has partnered with the Huntley High School HOSA-Future Health Professionals Chapter to promote career opportunities in the health care industry.

As a part of the partnership, physicians on staff at Advocate Sherman Hospital will serve as guest speakers at chapter meetings. Dr. Maciej Malinski, an Advocate Heart Institute cardiologist at Advocate Sherman Hospital, will speak to the group Nov. 16.

This is the first year of the Huntley High School chapter, which aims to get high school students interested in health care careers, as well as enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.

"We want to create an environment where people can enjoy spending time with other students who share the same passions and interests as them," says Chika Anikamadu, chapter president. "In the future, we hope this club will provide students with more volunteer opportunities in the medical community so that they can explore different fields of medicine and become leaders."

During national HOSA week earlier this month, Advocate Sherman Hospital also provided the local chapter with first aid kits that were handed out to students along with an educational materials.

"We are excited to partner with Huntley High School to encourage students to pursue careers in the health care field," says Linda Deering, president of Advocate Sherman Hospital. "This next generation has the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives through their work."
