Libertyville fire prompts closure of Route 176

A fire prompted officials to temporarily shut down a stretch of Route 176 near downtown Libertyville on Friday.

One person suffered smoke inhalation in the fire, which was reported about 1 p.m. in a building at 303 E. Park Ave. The fire was in a kitchen in an apartment on the second floor of the building, which also has first-floor offices, Assistant Libertyville Fire Chief Michael Cloe said.

About a dozen people got out safely, Cloe said.

Route 176, which also is called Park Avenue, was temporarily shut down between Milwaukee Avenue and 4th Street while crews were on the scene.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly, Cloe said. The cause is under investigation.

The woman who was injured was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.
