Carol Stream man charged with DUI after Palatine crash

A Carol Stream man was charged with driving under the influence after a chain-reaction crash in Palatine Wednesday night, authorities said Friday.

Daniel Paska, 41, of the 100 block of Horizon Circle, was driving southeast on the 1700 block of North Rand Road about 5 p.m. when his car struck the vehicle in front of him, police said in a news release.

That vehicle collided with another car in the adjacent lane of traffic. Meanwhile, Paska's 2013 Honda Pilot spun into oncoming traffic and struck another car, police said.

Paska and one other driver were transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights for treatment of injuries.

Paska was charged with DUI and with violation of the Firearm Concealed Carry Act after police discovered a loaded Beretta 9 mm semiautomatic handgun in his driver door. Police said while Paska did possess a valid concealed carry permit for the gun, it's a violation to possess it on a public way while under the influence of alcohol.

Paska was also issued a traffic citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

He was released after posting bond, and is due in court Dec. 16.
