Family sues county coroner it says left body parts at scene

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - The family of a man killed in a truck crash in southern Illinois is suing a county coroner's office that it says failed to recover all of the victim's body parts from the accident scene.

Jared McPherson of Bethalto and another man were killed in August when their truck left Interstate 255, struck a tree and caught fire.

In their lawsuit, McPherson's fiancee, Candice Holland, and his sister, Karissa McPherson, say they went to the scene days later to place a memorial and discovered parts of a hand and skull.

The (Belleville) News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1WV9cQS ) that St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone couldn't be reached Thursday for comment on the suit.

Stone said in August the condition of the bodies made it difficult to tell if any parts were missing.
