Schaumburg trustees OK flat levy in preliminary vote

Schaumburg village trustees passed a flat property tax levy in a preliminary vote Tuesday, moving the measure toward final approval next month.

The approximately $20.7 million levy is the same as last year's. Village officials say they had hoped to maintain their practice of lowering the levy every year since it was first enacted in 2009 at the height of the recession, but uncertainty about state funding caused by the budget stalemate in Springfield led trustees to keep it flat.

Village Manager Brian Townsend said last week that the state recently has not paid Schaumburg its $300,000 monthly share of motor-fuel and use taxes.

The village board is expected to give the levy final approval when it meets Dec. 8.
