Brigadier General Machut Visits Oakbrook School in Wood Dale

Brigadier General Machut of the United States Marine Corps visited with students at Oakbrook Elementary School in Wood Dale District 7 on November 11th to commemorate Veteran's Day. Kindergarten, first and second graders developed questions in their classes to ask the General such as: where do you get food while you are in combat, do you work with other branches of the Armed Forces, and what type of vehicles he drives. Second grader Axel asked, "Do you like your job?" The General answered that his job keeps him very busy since he commands over 10,000 Marines, but that he is very proud to protect and serve our country. General Machut spent two hours at the school and held three discussion sessions by grade level at Oakbrook explaining his job, his uniform and the various branches of the armed forces. Afterward, students got the chance to shake hands with General Machut and express their gratitude for his service to our country. Teacher Gus Rodriguez commented, "It was an honor to have General Machut visit with our students. It really gave students an appreciation for the armed forces and tied our lessons together with a real-life Veteran."
