Learn about the 1915 Eastland disaster Sunday at Dundee library

East Dundee - A compelling program on the 1915 Eastland Disaster, Chicago's greatest loss-of-life tragedy, will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave. (Route 68) in East Dundee.

The 45-minute program features the three recently discovered motion picture videos taken in 1915; dozens of photographs; compelling firsthand narrative delivered by descendants of a survivor; a brief video with ABC's Ron Magers interviewing several survivors; animation depicting the listing of the Eastland while passengers were boarding, and the moment the ship capsized; and a brief video revealing how George "Papa Bear" Halas arrived too late to board the Eastland (a fortunate bit of fate that guaranteed the future of the Chicago Bears and the National Football League).

The program is free. To register, visit the library's website at www.frvpld.info, or call (847) 428-3661, ext. 3.

The Fox River Public Library District serves 70,000 residents of Carpentersville, East Dundee, West Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts, and parts of Algonquin. Visit frvpld.info for more information.
