Woman killed by train in downtown Barrington
A 52-year-old woman was killed Tuesday morning when she stepped in front of an oncoming Metra commuter train in downtown Barrington.
The crash delayed trains on the Union Pacific Northwest Line for about 2½ hours during the morning rush, as police and firefighters responded to the scene and investigated.
According to police and Metra, inbound train 624 struck the woman at 7:17 a.m. as she stepped onto the tracks at Route 59 north of Lake-Cook Road, just west of the village's Metra station.
The Barrington Fire Department took her to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her identity has not been released.
An investigation by Barrington police and the Major Crash Investigation Team is ongoing, police said.
Trains began moving again through the village shortly before 9:45 a.m., Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.
