Des Plaines man missing since last week found safe in Rosemont

A 78-year-old Des Plaines man who went missing last week after leaving his retirement home was located safe and in good health Tuesday when he went to a bank in Rosemont to get money, police said.

Roger D. Albanese was reported missing by family members on Saturday, four days after he was last seen by staff at Asbury Court Retirement Home, 1750 S. Elmhurst Road. Video surveillance at a bank in Rosemont showed him making a withdrawal about 5 p.m. last Tuesday.

Des Plaines police Detective Cmdr. Randy Akin said when Albanese returned to the bank Tuesday, employees who had been made aware that he was missing contacted Rosemont police. Albanese told officers he had been living in a hotel since last week, but otherwise declined to discuss his whereabouts, Akin said.

Police had considered Albanese endangered while he was missing because he uses a walker to get around and did not have his medications with him.
