Music notes: Filligar, Aviation play intimate Abbey Pub set

<h3 class="briefHead">Aviation and the ambassadors</h3>

After traveling the world as cultural ambassadors for the U.S., coming back to Chicago from their new homes in California might not be that big a deal for alternative rockers Filligar. But getting a chance to play with some of our hottest up-and-coming local musicians - and maybe catching up with some deep-dish pizza - is. Filligar is joined on the intimate Abbey Pub stage by pop rockers Glam Camp and Suburban Chicago's Got Talent finalists Aviation and the War, indie rockers from Wood Dale and Addison who continue to prove they have the chops to hang with the longer-established bands on the scene. This is a 17-and-over show. Abbey Pub, 3420 W. Grace, Chicago. $12; (773) 478-4408 or abbeychicago.com. 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14

<h3 class="briefHead">Leave the fire behind</h3>

Portland band Everclear started a long roller coaster ride in the music industry back in the grunge days of 1991, but it wasn't until 1995 when its '94 album "Sparkle and Fade" really hit the alternative spotlight. To celebrate that 20th anniversary, founder and lead vocalist Art Alexakis is bringing Everclear to play Chicago's City Winery for a night of music and stories about life in the band. The early show sold out quickly (with a waiting list for tickets available), so a late show was added. Preshow meet-and-greet and VIP packages are also an option; check with the venue for availability. Pop-rock band Hydra Melody opens. City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph St., Chicago. Tickets start at $55. (312) 733-9463 or citywinery.com. 7 and 10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11

<h3 class="briefHead">From fest to feature film</h3>

Glen Ellyn native Aaron Williams and his Aaron Williams Band have had a busy year. Not only is Williams the founder and organizer of the Homegrown Music Festival, but the band wrote and performed the title track for the locally produced feature film "Mind Over Mindy." Catch them at Chicago's Metro Thursday as they play with openers Leonum, Mer and Yoko. Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Chicago. $12 in advance, $15 at the door. (773) 549-4140 or metrochicago.com. 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12

Be prepared to get a dose of holiday spirit when the Steamroller rolls into town for two performances Saturday at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora. Paramount Theatre, 23 East Galena Blvd., Aurora. For those of you who have been missing Lucky Boys Confusion, you're in luck. Sure, the guys from DuPage County have been doing more shows recently. The show is a 17-and-over gig, so be prepared to show your ID. House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn St., Chicago. $20; (312) 923-2000 or houseofblues.com. 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14
