Marmion to honor veterans at ceremony

Marmion Academy in Aurora will hold its annual Veterans Day Observance Ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in the Alumni Hall gymnasium at 1000 Butterfield Road.

The Marmion JROTC Cadet Corps will honor all veterans, especially deceased alumni veterans of war, during the after-school formation and parade. The public is welcome to attend.

The guest of honor for this year's Veterans Day ceremony is Dawn Seif, widow of Marmion alumnus Staff Sgt. Andrew Seif.

Staff Sgt Andrew C. Seif joined the United States Marine Corps after high school. He was a Combat Engineer based out of Camp Pendleton and Twentynine Palms, California, from 2006 until 2009. He then joined Marine Special Operations Command based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he and his wife, Dawn, resided.

He served one tour of duty in Iraq and two in Afghanistan during his career. Andy was a recipient of the USO's 2013 Marine of the Year award. He also received the Silver Star, the third-highest combat award, on March 6, 2015. He was killed only days later on March 10 when a Black Hawk helicopter went down in water off the Florida Panhandle during a nighttime training exercise.

Marmion Academy, a Catholic-Benedictine college preparatory high school for young men, is a community dedicated to spiritual formation, academic excellence and leadership development. For more information, please visit www.marmion.org.
