Thousands of reasons to run for Naperville marathoners

The third annual Healthy Driven Naperville Marathon got off to a chilly start at 7 a.m. Sunday, when Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico helped kick off the proceedings at the starting line. But temperatures grew more moderate by the time the first full marathoner, Scot Ursum of Grand Rapids, Michigan, crossed the finish line with a time of 2:45:25. Ursum, 47, said his training on a hilly course in Grand Rapids prepared him for Naperville, with its hilly first half. "I had a feeling I was in good shape coming into this," he said. Full story.

Police recover drugs, guns in Waukegan

The Lake County Gang Task Force arrested two suspected gang members and recovered illegal drugs, guns and thousands of dollars in cash during an investigation last week, authorities said Sunday. Wayne Mackins, 55, of Beach Park, and Eddie M. Calhoun, 36, of Round Lake, each face multiple felony drug charges stemming from the investigation, which began with a Nov. 3 traffic stop, police said. Kane County plans 'No Refusal' DUI patrols on Black Wednesday

For the fourth year in a row, the Kane County state's attorney's office will work with law enforcement agencies to hold a "No Refusal" DUI enforcement the day before Thanksgiving. State's Attorney Joe McMahon said Nov. 25, otherwise known as "Black Wednesday," was chosen with input from police agencies and the county's DUI Task Force. The day before Thanksgiving is one of the biggest drinking nights of the year. Full story.

Police investigate Palatine hit-and-run

A woman was injured in a hit-and-run crash Sunday morning at Palatine Road and Middleton Avenue in Palatine. The injured woman, who was the driver of one car, sustained nonlife-threatening injuries, said Palatine police Cmdr. Mike Vargas. The driver of the second car - whose location is still unknown - drove off on Palatine Road after the crash. Full story.

For now, Gase's only concern is Bears
