Timothy Christian girls volleyball going downstate for first time

Timothy Christian's girls volleyball team earned its first trip downstate in school history.

The Trojans defeated Watseka 25-17, 23-25, 25-12 on Saturday afternoon at the Class 2A Beecher supersectional.

Dani Van Laten had 22 assists, 6 kills, 5 digs and 3 blocks for the Trojans (36-4), and Ana Venema added 6 kills, 3 assists and 3 blocks.

The Trojans will play Bloomington Central Catholic at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Redbird Arena in Normal in the state semifinals.
