Police, FBI searching for Elgin bank robber

Elgin police and the FBI are searching for a man who robbed an Elgin bank Wednesday afternoon.

The man entered Fifth Third Bank in the Cobblers Crossing Shopping Center at 525 Waverly Drive around 3:40 p.m. and demanded money, police Cmdr. Dan O'Shea said.

Nobody was injured, O'Shea said, but the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

A weapon was not used in the robbery, according to information posted on Bandit Tracker Chicago by FBI Chicago agents.

The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 25 and 40. He is about 6 feet tall with a slim to medium build, according to Bandit Tracker.

At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black hat and dark clothing, FBI agents said.

O'Shea declined to comment further and said any additional information would be released through the FBI, the lead agency on the case.
