College of DuPage and Elmhurst College Announce 2+2 Articulation Agreement for Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy

Nov. 3, 2015 - Thanks to a new partnership between the College of DuPage and Elmhurst College, COD students now can transfer seamlessly to Elmhurst to earn both an Associate of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in four years.

Under the new 2+2 articulation agreement, COD students will be guided through an academic plan that ensures a smooth transition to Elmhurst. COD students may transfer up to 70 hours of credit to Elmhurst, including 12 to 16 semester hours of philosophy course credits, to earn a bachelor's degree.

"This agreement provides our students with a seamless transfer experience and the opportunity to earn a philosophy bachelor's degree from a renowned program at a prestigious college," said Emmanuel Awuah, COD Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. "We are very pleased to offer this opportunity for our students. It would serve as a model for other articulation agreements in regards to transfer academic disciplines and programs at College of DuPage".

Participants in the 2+2 program who plan to earn a law degree also may choose to participate in Elmhurst's partnership with The John Marshall Law School. Under this plan, students would earn associate, bachelor's and JD degrees in just six years.

Elmhurst College Associate Professor Katrina Sifferd, chair of the Department of Philosophy, noted that COD's philosophy program prepares students to be able to hit the ground running at Elmhurst.

"We're really excited to have students coming here from a really strong philosophy program who can come and help us conduct research right away," she said, adding that graduates from Elmhurst's philosophy program are ready to enter the work force immediately or go on to graduate school in public policy, law, public health and other fields.

Among the state's public colleges and universities, College of DuPage serves more than 29,000 students and is the second largest provider of undergraduate education in the State of Illinois after University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Elmhurst College is a leading four-year college that seamlessly blends liberal learning and professional preparation to educate students for life in a global society and help them to reach their potential.
