Elk Grove mayor recognized as Small Business Advocate of the Year

On Oct. 12, U.S. Conference of Mayors representative Jeff Bean presented Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson with the 2015 Small Business Advocate Award, which recognizes mayors and communities that have demonstrated their commitment to supporting small businesses.

Bean, who flew in from Washington, D.C. to attend the event, praised the village for their business friendly philosophy.

"It is an honor for myself and the village to receive this kind of recognition." said Mayor Johnson, "We consider ourselves partners with the business community and are always working for ways to support and promote them."

The Made in Elk Grove Expo, a free event hosted by the village to promote its vast industrial business community, was a fitting venue for the award presentation.

"The village works hard to provide value to our businesses, because we know that their success is our success." said Johnson, "This event is just one facet of our efforts to go 'Beyond Business Friendly' and really support our manufacturers and the business community as a whole."

Johnson was nominated by Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson, a past recipient of the award. The U.S. Conference of Mayors Small Business Advocate of the Year Award was established five years ago to acknowledge the work of mayors on behalf of small business. The award is presented to mayors who have demonstrated leadership and partnership with small businesses in their communities.
