$65 tickets on sale to meet Jordanian queen at Judson

Want to meet royalty in Elgin?

Tickets are on sale for Judson University's April 18, 2016 World Leaders Forum featuring Queen Noor of Jordan.

The royal visit — a historic first for Elgin — marks the Christian liberal arts university's sixth annual community event featuring global leaders. It begins at 2 p.m. at the Herrick Chapel on Judson's Elgin campus, 1151 N. State St.

Noor will speak about her work to support humanitarianism, followed by a VIP reception at 5 p.m. in Chicago. Her presentations will be include question-and-answer sessions.

The American-born Noor, 64, is the widow of Jordan's King Hussein, who died in 1999. Since then, she has been an advocate for cross-cultural understanding and conflict prevention, and other global issues, such as the refugee crises, missing persons, poverty, climate change and disarmament. Her work in Jordan and the Arab world has focused on national and regional human security.

The Noor Al Hussein and the King Hussein foundations — founded and chaired by Noor — have advanced thinking in the Middle East through pioneering programs in poverty eradication, women's empowerment, microfinance, health, and arts as a medium for social development and cross-cultural exchange. She also has written two books — “Hussein of Jordan” (2000) and “Leap of Faith: Memoirs of an Unexpected Life” (2003), a New York Times best seller published in 17 languages.

Ticket and sponsorship information for the community and VIP events is available at judsonu.edu/WLF. A limited number of tickets are available, starting at $65 for the community event.
