Portable grill suspected as cause of Naperville truck fire

A fire in a U-Haul truck in Naperville closed a portion of Ogden Avenue for more than three hours Friday, but no one was seriously hurt, authorities said.

The fire began in the back storage compartment of the truck at 11 a.m. when it was near a gas station at the southeast corner of Ogden and Aurora Avenue, said Andy Dina, Naperville Fire Department Division Chief.

The fire set the truck's entire back compartment ablaze, but it didn't affect the passenger area, Dina said.

One person received minor burns to the hands and was treated at the scene, authorities said. Dina said the preliminary fire report did not list whether the person was a man or woman. No one was taken to the hospital.

Dina said the fire likely was caused by a portable grill in the back storage compartment. It has been deemed accidental.

Crews investigating the fire closed all lanes of Ogden Avenue in both directions for a short time, but one of the northbound lanes remained closed for more than three hours between Aurora Avenue and Feldott Lane.
