Prosecutors: Employee stole $8,000 in goods from Rosemont store

A man prosecutors say stole about $8,000 worth of merchandise earlier this year from the Rosemont store where he worked was ordered held on $40,000 bail Friday.

Benjamin Forgie, of the 1600 block of Sunnyside Avenue, Chicago, was charged with theft, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Forgie, 31, began working at the store on the 5300 block of Fashion Outlets Way earlier this year, said Cook County assistant state's attorney Anissa Jordan. On 27 different occasions between June 29 and Oct. 24, Forgie is accused of removing merchandise and scanning the items as returns using fraudulent customer names or leaving the name blank, Jordan said. He then credited the amount of the fraudulent return to his debit card, Jordan said.

He is due in court Nov. 19.
