Sherman Hospital recognized again for patient safety

Elgin, Ill. - Advocate Sherman Hospital has again achieved an A grade for excellence in patient safety from the Leapfrog Group's biannual Hospital Safety Scores.

Leapfrog analysts use publicly available data to look at 28 different safety measures and assign grades based on how well hospitals are doing to protect patients from harm. Measurements include the hospital's ability to prevent errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

"Providing safe, high-quality care for our patients and community is our top priority at Advocate Sherman Hospital" says Linda Deering, hospital president. "We are proud that our efforts to continuously improve safety are once again being recognized by the Leapfrog Group."

Other Advocate Health Care hospitals recognized with an A grade include Advocate Christ Medical Center, Advocate Condell Medical Center, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

"We are pleased to be consistently recognized for our leadership in patient safety, but we never rest on our laurels and will not be satisfied until we achieve our goal of eliminating all serious harm," said Lee Sacks, M.D., executive vice president and chief medical officer, Advocate Health Care. "As we continue on our journey of becoming a high-reliability organization, safety is a top priority for every associate throughout every facet of our system because that is what our patients deserve."

More than 2,500 hospitals across the nation are graded, including 117 Illinois hospitals. A total of 51 Illinois hospitals received an A grade.
