Marengo moving ahead with quarry plan

MARENGO, Ill. (AP) - Marengo has agreed to move forward with plans for a quarry.

The developer assured the Marengo City Council this week that the operation would be safe and out of sight.

Jack Pease is owner of Super Aggregates. As part of his plan, he's asking the city to annex 80 acres of land. The plan is to extract sand and gravel with a dredge over the next 20 to 30 years.

The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1Wi6CcH ) that Pease said he would be open-minded about what to do with the property once mining is finished. He mentioned residential homes around a lake as one option.

The city would get property and sales taxes from the site.

A public hearing still needs to be held.
