Prospect able to outlast Fremd

Juniors Mary Mazurek (12 kills) and Kaeli Myers (11 kills) led the attack as No. 5-seeded Prospect's girls volleyball team defeated No. 12 Fremd 26-28, 25-13, 25-21 in the semifinals of the Glenbrook North Class 4A regional on Tuesday night.

The Knights (25-11) will face No. 4 Glenbrook North in Thursday's 6 p.m. championship.

Other attack leaders for Prospect were Maggie Porwit (7 kills), Brenda Kendziera (6 kills), Sammy Withey (6 kills) and Michelle Haaning (5 kills), who handed out 41 assists and had 2 aces.

Mazurek and Kendziera each had a pair of blocks while Myers (22 digs), Nikki Giammarino (16), Valerie Thomas (16), Kelly Prete (12) and Haaning (10) were leaders in the back row.

Barrington d. Wauconda: No. 13 Barrington advanced to the championship of the Grayslake North regional with a 25-23, 17-25,25-23 victory over No. 4 Wauconda.

Leading the Fillies (14-23) were Olivia Hagan (12 digs), Megan Talbot (10 kills), Gabby Morris (10 kills), Andi Capel (8 kills) and Cecilia Stack (5 kills).

Barrington faces No. 5 Lakes in Thursday's 6 p.m. final.

Palatine d. Grant: No. 7 Palatine (24-12) advanced to Thursday's 6 p.m. championship of the Zion-Benton regional with a 25-21, 25-22 victory over No. 10 Grant. The Mid-Suburban West champs will face No. 2 Stevenson for the title.

Rolling Meadows d. Niles West: The No. 8-seeded Mustangs (21-13-1) posted a 25-22 25-22 victory over No. 8 Niles West in the semifinal of the Conant regional as Jenny Srnak (7 kills), Maddie Sellergren (6) and Hannah Mickey (4) led the Meadows' attack.

Megan Mich (10 assists) and Megan King (9) set the offense. Paige Connor, Madeline Rebsamen and Sellergren each had 2 digs.

Meadows meets top-seeded New Trier in Thursday's 7 p.m. final.

St. Viator d. Lakeview: No. 2-seeded St. Viator won 25-9, 25-6 in semifinal of its own Class 3A regional as Carrie Leazer, Colleen Williams and Danielle Laterza each served 2 aces for the Lions (19-16).

Alyssa Forbes, Gabi Thomas and Leazer each had 3 kills while Michaela Mueller was 45-of-45 setting with 16 assists.

Ellie Meyer collected 10 digs for the Lions, who will meet No. 7 Resurrection for the championship on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Lake Forest d. Wheeling: No. 3 Lake Forest defeated No. 18 Wheeling 25-11, 2-15 as the Wildcats (11-26) were led on attack by junior Timber Terrell (8 kills), Michaela Vasey (3 kills) and Melissa Claver (3 kills).

Jessica Janowski handed out 13 assists and Vasey had 10 digs.

Addison Trail d. Leyden: No. 7 Addison Trail posted a 25-10, 25-22 victory over No. 9 Leyden (23-12) in the semifinals of the Addison Trail regional.
