St. Charles North High School rowdies in the stands released handfuls of flour into the air, creating a smokey look as the school's marching band waited to perform it's next song before the start of the varsity football game vs. Batavia. As the baking product cleared the air, I liked how this tuba player stood out from the rest of the band, especially with the North Star logo decorating his instrument with a pop of color and design.   One of the coolest assignments that I really enjoyed in September was the Special Olympics Plane Pull at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. A UPS Airbus A300 and United Airlines 737 were the subjects of everyone's attention, producing the ultimate tug-of-war between man, woman combos and machine. The human condition of compassion was flying higher than the planes themselves as law enforcement and citizens from all over the area strained muscles to pull about 90 tons combined. The Special Olympics Plane Pull teams were made up of everything from high school students to police officers to church groups who competed to pull the planes for 12 feet in the fastest time. It sure was amazing to see all of mankind working for the common good...in this case the Special Olympics. This photo was published in the Perspective column in the print edtion of the Daily Herald.
