Cook County to announce gun violence ordinance

Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin of Chicago, State's Attorney Anita Alvarez and Sheriff Thomas J. Dart will announce a proposed ordinance Monday aimed at addressing gun violence in the county.

The ordinance, which is scheduled for a vote before the county board on Wednesday, Oct. 28, would establish a Cook County gun violence coordinator and create a gun violence task force.

Lake County, Indiana Sheriff John Buncich will also attend Monday's news conference, scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Cook County Sheriff's headquarters in Maywood.
