Embarrassed to show room

This is supposed to be a living room, not a play room! My 7-year-old daughter has taken over this room!

This couch has been through three kids, a dog and a bird who flew through our window when our dog broke the window to chase the mailman!

Of course, the bird had to leave droppings before we were able to get it back outside!

My two boys broke one of the dining room chairs when they were wrestling. I do not even step foot in there because what is the point! I run out to meet my kids' friends' parents so they do not come in and see what this looks like!

I work full time and am out almost every night with one of my kids at their activities! I have just resorted to hiding out in my bedroom when everyone is sleeping!

Lastly, check out the duck picture my husband found in the garbage! I am embarrassed to even submit this! The television, which is on the left, is on two end tables left by the old owners and are probably older than my parents! HELP!!

• Budget: $5,000

The space has some great pieces: a nice sectional, dining table and grandfather clock. This space just needs some organization and some accents. By adding area rugs, some tables, lamps, storage and accents, this space will look beautiful.

Suggestions:

• By using two complementary area rugs with different patterns, it will create separation of space as well as add style to the space and a soft surface for the kids to play.

• Move the artwork to be centered over the sofa, add sconces to either side, then place some lamps with color to bring color to the neutral walls. In the dining space, adding some window treatments and a mirror to the wall will make it complete.

• Adding a storage shelf against the wall for toy storage will allow for organization of the toys but still allow the children to be in the room they like to play in. Just keep it more organized.
