Postseason wins for Antioch, Libertyville, Carmel

It took 12 rounds of penalty kicks, but Antioch's boys soccer team advanced in the state tournament Saturday.

The second-seeded Sequoits edged host/No. 3 Harvard 2-1 in the Class 2A Harvard regional final.

The game was scoreless at halftime. Antioch got a goal from Mickey West assisted by Gabe Tijerina in the 77th minute. In PKs, the Sequoits prevailed 10-9.

Antioch (15-6-2) advances to Tuesday's 6:30 p.m. sectional semifinal at Harvard and will play Carmel.

Libertyville 3, Palatine 0: At Fremd, the third-seeded Wildcats received goals from Nate Edmunds, Tucker Goebeler and Patrick Potts. Liam O'Connell and Kenny Gallagher had assists for Libertyville (14-3-1), which led 1-0 at halftime.

Brant Kym made 6 saves in net for the Wildcats, who advance to the Stevenson sectional. Libertyville will play No. 15 Highland Park in Wednesday's 6:30 p.m. semifinal.

Carmel 6, North Chicago 0: At Chicago Amundsen, the top-seeded Corsairs cruised.

Carmel will play Antioch at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Harvard sectional semifinals.
