Elgin police investigating armed robbery

Elgin police are searching for an armed robber who took an undisclosed amount of cash from a retail store Friday night.

About 9:35 p.m., the suspect entered the store on the 600 block of Dundee Avenue,, displayed a handgun to the clerk and then took money from the cash register before leaving. The clerk wasn't injured.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, about 6 feet to 6 feet 4 inches tall. He was last seen fleeing the area on foot.

Detectives from the Elgin Police Department's Major Investigations Division are investigating.
