'Man Up' event to focus on men's health issues

Elgin, Ill. - For one night, skip the gym and head to the pub - all in the name of men's health.

"Man Up for Men's Health" will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Porter's Pub at Bowes Creek Country Club, 1250 Bowes Creek Road in Elgin. The event is hosted by Advocate Sherman Hospital and is presented in partnership with 103.9FM The Fox.

Designed to raise awareness of men's health issues and raise funds for the Sherman Men's Health Alliance, the unique event features free food, wellness checks and flu shots, plus the chance to win raffle and door prizes, including tickets to upcoming Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls games.

Sherman Hospital physicians will also set the record straight on common men's health myths and will be available to answer men's health-related questions.

The event is free and open to men, women and their families, and raffle-ticket purchases are encouraged during the event.

The event also kicks off "Movember," an international observance where men grow their facial hair in the name of men's health. Mustache and beard models from Beardsgaard Barbers in Batavia will be on hand to inspire guests' Movember looks.
