Hanover Park teen charged with armed robbery

A Hanover Park teen was charged with armed robbery after he and a juvenile flashing a gun took an iPhone from a man walking his dog, authorities said.

Alex Kloss, 19, was ordered held on a $50,000 individual recognizance bond Friday. Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie also ordered Kloss fitted with an electronic monitor and said he must remain in his home except for school, court appearances or physician visits.

Prosecutors say Kloss and the juvenile approached the man in the vicinity of Ramblewood Drive and Strathmore Lane about 12:15 a.m. Thursday and asked to pet his dog. The juvenile asked the man for money and then his phone, said Assistant State's Attorney Anissa Jordan. When the man refused, the juvenile lifted his shirt to reveal what authorities later learned was a pellet gun, Jordan said. Kloss and the juvenile took the phone and ran into a home, Jordan said.

The man called police and pointed out the home, where officers found Kloss attempting to climb out a window with the iPhone, Jordan said.

If convicted, Kloss faces up to 30 years in prison. He next appears in court on Nov. 12.
