Fire causes $100,000 in damage to Mt. Prospect storage facility

A fire left a Mount Prospect moving and storage facility with roughly $100,000 in damage Saturday night, authorities said.

Firefighters were called about 5:30 p.m. after the fire triggered an alarm at the Pack Rat on the 1700 block of Linneman Road.

The building was unoccupied at the time of the blaze, which started in a truck that moves the PODS, or portable storage units, Lt. Ron Redlin said.

Challenged by ventilation issues, firefighters spent about a half-hour working to bring the fire under control. There were no injuries to crews from Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights and Des Plaines fire departments, Redlin said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
