Seniority rules as Warren edges Grant

Jenna Walczak pounded 15 kills, and Warren's girls volleyball team celebrated Senior Night by outlasting Grant 25-22, 19-25, 25-22 Thursday.

Walczak, a senior, also had an ace and 9 digs. Senior Kim Hengesh added 6 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks and 3 digs for the Blue Devils. Junior Natalie McNally contributed 5 kills, and junior Claire Lundtveit collected 4 kills and 3 blocks.

"Great effort tonight by the whole team," Warren coach Julie Filippo said. "Our seniors showed the fire we have been looking for all season. Grant has been playing well all season and we knew it was going to be a tough match. What a great match for both teams."

Grant got 6 kills apiece from Kylie Mueller and Hannah Johnson. Taylor Drake had 3 kills, while Jordynn Hundley and Johnson each posted 2 solo blocks. Kate Kiser served 12 of 13 with 2 aces and set 61 of 63 with 22 assists.

Megan Whitman (14 of 15) and Mueller (13 of 14) also served tough for the Bulldogs. Whitman led the team with 9 digs.

Libertyville d. Vernon Hills: A night after beating Wauconda in the North Suburban Conference championship match, the Wildcats picked up a 25-7, 25-21 win to improve to 30-5 and extend their winning streak to 18 matches heading into the postseason.

Erin Dunleavy and Hannah Zerwas had 5 and 3 kills, respectively, for Libertyville.

Huntley d. Grayslake Central: Marie Gerbasi and Shermaine Maristella each had 4 kills for the Rams in their 25-14, 25-10 loss in the Fox Valley crossover.

Morgan Anderberg served 2 aces for Grayslake Central (17-18), and Lizzie Twardock lofted 12 assists.

Dundee-Crown d. Grayslake North: The Knights lost the Fox Valley crossover 25-12, 25-17, despite Kendall Buchman's 4 kills and Taylor Johnston's 7 digs.
