Lake County deputy injured during arrest
A Lake County Sheriff's deputy suffered several fractures to his hand Tuesday while arresting a Round Lake area man suspected of beating his former girlfriend and another man, authorities said.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a report of a fight in progress at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 24600 block of West Passavant Avenue near Round Lake.
When they arrived at the residence, authorities said, they were told that David Martinez-Sanchez, 44, of the 24600 block of West Passavant Avenue, had assaulted his ex-girlfriend and was holding her against her will inside the home.
When deputies tried to enter front door of the residence, Martinez-Sanchez closed the door on the hand of a deputy, sheriff's police said. Martinez-Sanchez also barricaded the back door with furniture, police said.
Deputies eventually were able to enter the home through a window and arrest Martinez-Sanchez.
He's now charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, unlawful restraint, two counts of domestic battery, resisting arrest, and obstructing a peace officer. If convicted of the most serious charge, Martinez-Sanchez faces a maximum three to seven years in prison.
The injured deputy was taken to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, where it was determined he will need surgery to repair multiple hand fractures, sheriff's police said.
Martinez-Sanchez appeared in court Wednesday morning, when a judge set bail at $100,000. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 10.
