J.M. Heffern Park dedication is Oct. 24

The Elk Grove Park District will dedicate a park to James Heffern Saturday, Oct. 24. Heffern is a past park board commissioner and a lifelong supporter of the Elk Grove Park District and the Village of Elk Grove.

Heffern's involvement started in 1964 with boys baseball. In 1967, he started youth football and, in 1997, he created the men's over 50 softball league, which has grown to 16 teams over 50, eight teams over 60 and four teams over 70.

Heffern is also the author of two books, "Junior High at Age 75" and "Just One More Season." His volunteerism and contributions to Elk Grove Village are immeasurable.

Bartrum Park, 781 Crest Ave., will be renamed J.M. Heffern Park at 10 a.m. Saturday. For information, call (847) 228-2869.
