Rosary sweeps Aurora Central Catholic

Rosary junior libero Martha Konovodoff said the Royals' practices are becoming more grueling as the season winds down, and she couldn't be happier about it.

That practice is paying off for the Royals (20-14), who have defeated Neuqua Valley and St. Charles East recently and continued their strong play with a 25-15, 25-11 win at Aurora Central Catholic Monday.

"We've been going up and down. More down than we should be," Konovodoff said. "But we've been climbing back up. We've been working so hard in practice. (Coach) Rachel (Fox) had us do 60 burpees, we're all still in shock and sore. I'm grateful for what Rachel does. Lately we've been coming home from practice feeling like we've accomplished a lot."

The Royals scored the first 4 points of the match on Meegan Hart's kill, a Molly Curley ace and a perfect slide play from Julia Gauthier to Hart. Those two again connected for a kill on set point.

The Chargers (7-20) held a brief 3-2 lead in the second set before a 10-0 run Royals run put them back in control. Hart was at the service line during that surge; moments later Erin Burke served 5 in a row to make it 20-6.

"They are really good," said Chargers coach Dan Drye, whose team was led by Maddy Trnka's 6 kills. "They attack fast, they pass so well, they are always in system. We don't pass well to be in system very often. We're so predictable. They are quick and creative. A lot of credit to them. They attack really well, they play good defense. They are a very good team."

Hart led Rosary with 8 kills, Burke had 6 and Curry 5. Gauthier set 21 assists and Konovodoff had 6 digs.

Crystal Lake South d. McHenry: The Gators 19-15, 6-4) won 25-22, 25-18 behind Jordan Proszenyak (10 kills, 9 digs), Kendall Kilberger (9 kills, 10 digs), Brooke Maddox (4 kills), Emily Slimko (7 digs, 22 assists) and Ariana Chelini (7 digs).
