Cops: Charges filed in Elgin-area drug ring

Six people are facing felony drug charges after police said they broke up a midlevel narcotics distribution ring operating in the Elgin area.

Authorities said several ounces of cocaine were recovered from numerous dealers over the course of the 10-month investigation by the Elgin Police Department's Special Investigations Division, the FBI and the Kane County state's attorney's office.

Elgin police and the FBI arrested five people involved in the ring Thursday night. Bond was set at $300,000 for two Elgin men, Marco M. Lee, 33, of the 1100 block of Blackhawk Drive, and Mark A. Forrest, 38, of the 200 block of College Street.

Caprice J. Gray, 26, of the 1000 block of South Elgin Boulevard in South Elgin, had his bond set at $250,000.

Shaquanda S. Lee, 30, also of the 200 block of College Street, and Todd C. Williams, 36, of the 300 block of Percy Street in Elgin, had their bonds set at $200,000.

All five face multiple felony charges of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and/or unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

The sixth person, Marcus Burton, 29, of the 100 block of Center Street in Elgin, was already in custody at the Kane County jail on unrelated narcotics charges. He faces two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

"It is through joint cooperation efforts like this that the Elgin Police Department demonstrates our commitment to utilizing all legal avenues to combat illegal narcotic sales in Elgin and continue to make our community safe," Elgin Chief Jeffrey Swoboda said in a statement.
